Preparation for a first tattoo

February 20, 2015

There are few experiences in life as exciting as getting one’s first tattoo. The very making of a decision to put it on, choosing the perfect symbol and tattoo design, the part of the body which will undergo the procedure, it is all part of the ritual which is going to fill you with excitement that you will not easily forget.

Motivation to get a tattoo vary from a person to person and everyone has their specific reason why they decided for it. Tattoos often represent some important event in a person’s life, some significant change, a new partner, a symbol of endeavor, hope, accomplishments, sorrow, love, and even one’s hate, regrets or fears. Some people, however, get a tattoo following a trend, fashion, simply for decorative purpose.

You need to bear in mind that it is very important to desire your new tattoo whole-heartedly. If it is not the case, or if a decision to get a tattoo was result of a whim, or brought in a rush, it is very likely that you are going to regret it, sooner or later. You need to consider implications of the tattoo design you opted for, whether will it be on an exposed spot, and whether and in what manner it will affect your everyday life, your perception of yourself and perception of your family, colleagues and friends toward you. If you are considering to get a tattoo because it is fashionable nowadays, think twice over it because fashion changes and your tattoo will stay. It is in no way similar to clothes or jewelry which you can throw away once you’re fed up with how they look on you. Tattoo will become a part of your body, permanently embedded in your skin so you better be certain it is something you really, really want to have.

You should carefully consider the scale of your new tattoo and the body part to put it on. There are exemplary photos on the internet of how the various types and tattoo designs look on various parts of body, so use them to form your own visualization of your future looks.

Once you have made up your mind on design and spot, it is time to find a tattoo artist. It is highly recommended that you find a reliable and recognized artist, who has a studio with high hygiene standards to apply your first tattoo. It is the only way to be certain that you will get exactly what you wanted and that you will not get infected by a tattoo needle.

Avoid drinking of alcohol prior to getting a tattoo done. It may cause bleeding, which will make it difficult for the artist to do a clean work.

Don’t get a tattoo if you caught a cold or you’re ill. If your immune system is low, your tattoo will take long to heal so it’s better to wait until you are healthy.

You should eat something before you go to the studio. The procedure will take long and you will bear it more easily if you have enough energy and are not exhausted.
